March 13th, 2024 On the evening of March 13, following the South Bend Police Department’s monthly crime statistics meeting, Redress South Bend’s Sarah Foster sat down with Community Resource Officer Brian Meador for the debut episode of her interview series, “What Say You?”
Officer Meador was selected as the first guest to launch the series, offering the public a rare opportunity to hear directly from a local officer about his career, motivations, and personal experiences. Through Sarah Foster’s questions, the conversation explored what drew Meador into law enforcement, the legacy he hopes to leave behind, and the realities of serving in a profession that operates under constant public scrutiny.
The interview also revisited Meador’s life saving actions in a past incident involving a child, an act that later earned recognition from the Indiana Pacers at an NBA game.
Alongside the serious moments, the discussion included lighter personal details, including Meador’s favorite cookies, underscoring the series’ broader goal of showing officers as multidimensional individuals, not just public officials.
The interview aimed to do more than humanize. It sought to bridge the gap between residents and law enforcement by presenting officers as parents, sons, daughters, and neighbors with their own stories and experiences.
Officer Meador emphasized the importance of transparency and dialogue, noting the intense scrutiny that accompanies the profession and the value of candid conversations like this one.
We thank Officer Meador for his openness, professionalism, and willingness to engage with the community. You can watch the full interview below:
