About Redress South Bend

Our Start
In 2023, an incident of gun violence occurred right in my backyard. 10 shots were fired, and the event was captured on video (see above). While the police responded and collected evidence, this incident never appeared in the monthly crime statistics. This omission raised serious concerns and led us to dig deeper into crime reporting in our city. What we uncovered was troubling: this wasn’t an isolated case. Other crimes were also missing from the official monthly statistics, painting an incomplete picture of public safety in our community.

Our Passion
Living on South Bend's west side has given me a front-row seat to the disparities in how our city prioritizes its neighborhoods. Streets and sidewalks in less affluent areas are often overlooked, while tax dollars are funneled into wealthier parts of town. I've also seen city leaders, Common Council members, the Mayor, and his staff, disregard the voices of residents based solely on where they live. If your neighborhood isn’t seen as a key voting bloc, good luck getting basic infrastructure, like sidewalks, repaired.
Personally, this is deeply frustrating. I believe every resident deserves to be heard, and anyone who takes the time to share their perspective should be met with respect and an open mind. Ignoring entire communities because they fall into a lower tax bracket is not only unfair, it’s undemocratic. Yet, this seems to be the status quo in how South Bend’s 11 Elected Democrats operates.
